The fascinating, fragile forests of the Peruvian Andes

High up in the Peruvian Andes, 3,500 meters above sea level, is one of the country’s most unique and least visible forest ecosystems: the queñual forests. Composed of species of the Polylepis genus, these trees have developed unique adaptations to withstand extreme cold, intense winds and high solar radiation in the mountains.
