Inside the lungs of Nairobi

In Kenya, forests are far more than scenic backdrops. They are the lifeblood of communities, the anchors of watersheds and the guardians of biodiversity. These ecosystems regulate rainfall patterns, support rural livelihoods and hold deep cultural significance. The Oloolua Forest, tucked within the Karen neighborhood of the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, is one such place. The community living alongside it has spent the better part of two decades fighting for its survival.
