A new horizon: Shaping the future of landscapes. CIFOR and ICRAF Annual Report 2025

This annual report presents the achievements, partnerships, and strategic transformation of CIFOR and ICRAF during 2025 prior to their new operating identity, Landscape Alliance. The report highlights a shift toward integrated landscape approaches that address interconnected challenges related to climate change, biodiversity loss, food security, livelihoods, and sustainable land use. Across 317 active projects in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean, Landscape Alliance supported restoration, conservation, agroforestry, climate adaptation, and livelihood initiatives through research, policy engagement, innovation, and partnerships. Key outcomes included the restoration of more than 470,000 hectares of degraded land, improved management of 106.8 million hectares of land, the protection or sustainable use of 58.9 million hectares of biodiversity-important habitat, and support for nearly 397,000 people to enhance their livelihoods. The report also documents advances in agroforestry policy development, biodiversity governance, blue carbon initiatives, sustainable wildlife management, climate-smart agriculture, restoration monitoring, and inclusive finance. Through global platforms such as the Global Landscapes Forum and Resilient Landscapes, the organization expanded its influence by connecting science, policy, investment, and community action. The report demonstrates how integrated landscape solutions can contribute simultaneously to environmental sustainability, climate resilience, food systems transformation, and human well-being.
