Presented by Patrick Brown (Equal Right) at “Forests, finance & fairness: Lessons and pathways for transforming pledges into action” COP 30 side event on 13 November 2025.
The Cash for Conservation (CfC) Group, established at COP29, promotes the use of unconditional cash transfers (UCTs) as a transformative tool for conservation and climate action. Grounded in the principle that ecological stewardship and poverty alleviation are inseparable, CfC advances research, policy, implementation, and advocacy to channel resources directly to communities who protect nature or rely on it for subsistence. UCTs strengthen dignity, agency, and environmental outcomes by replacing conditional, top‑down conservation with trust‑based, socially just approaches.
