Presented by Amani Kouassi (CIFOR-ICRAF) at “Transforming forest-risk agricultural commodities: Inclusive, climate-resilient, and deforestation-free solutions” COP 30 side event on 17 November 2025.
Building resilience in Côte d’Ivoire’s cocoa sector is essential for safeguarding livelihoods and reducing pressure on remaining forests. Cocoa farmers—over one million people—face increasing vulnerability as drought, heat stress, low shade cover, and limited diversification heighten climate risks and drive deforestation when yields decline. Although climate‑resilient agroforestry technologies exist, their dissemination is constrained by insufficient and high‑risk financing.
