LEAF (Little Environmental Action Foundation)

LEAF (Little Environmental Action Foundation) is a charity dedicated to forest landscape restoration, focusing on native tree species to support biodiversity, ecosystem services, and local livelihoods. Working with universities, communities, and conservation partners, LEAF emphasizes seed systems and long-term sustainability. Through the Pwani Project, LEAF has established indigenous tree nurseries, restored relic forest sites, conducted outreach programs, and implemented mangrove restoration. Ex-situ restoration plots at Pwani University serve as seed sources, with thousands of trees planted annually, including threatened and red-listed species such as Vitex keniensis. Between 2024 and 2025, over 60,000 native trees were planted across Kilifi County, Kenya. Relic sites such as Mwangea Hills, Chasimba limestone outcrop, and Pangani rocks are being restored with community engagement, education, and alternative livelihood support. LEAF’s focus on native species ensures ecological adaptation, cultural relevance, and reduced risks from invasive species. Key impacts include biodiversity conservation, ecosystem resilience, strengthened seed systems, improved propagation knowledge, and livelihood opportunities through nurseries, research, and restoration employment.
